John Wiswell is a mammal. He graduated Bennington College in 2005. He has suffered from a painful neuromuscular syndrome since 1993, and thinks healthy people's capacity to complain is very funny. He finds a lot of things very funny, which is why so many of his stories are humorous.
The Bathroom Monologues are a long-running experiment. They are flash fiction, list fiction, monologues, dialogues, essays and other prose composed entirely while he's up and away from the computer for a short time. They began when he took bathroom breaks from studying in college. The point is always to talk about something completely different from whatever he's working on at the desk. It's a great exercise to keep the mind limber and the creative drive alive. He recommends trying it at home.
John's work has appeared at Flash Fiction Online, Weird Tales, 10Flash, Untied Shoelaces of the Mind, Every Day Fiction, BURST, Alienskin Magazine, Short.Story-ME, Tweet the Meat and Thaumatrope. In 2009 he was nominated for Dzanc Books' Best of the Web for "Rorschark Attack." In 2010 he was nominated for the Pushcart Prize for "Sologamous."
John was previously a journalist for Acorn Press and a wrestling writer for Inside Pulse. He has been a Goodreads.com Librarian and avid critic on the site for several years.
